Is it safe to eat my placenta?

It is entirely safe to have placenta remedies unless you are a smoker, unfortunately the build up of metals are held within the placenta and so deems it unsafe to use.

If you have any concerns about a specific medication, condition or infection then please do get in touch and we can talk it through.

Will placenta pills boost my milk supply and help keep the ‘baby blues’ and postnatal depression away?

It is super difficult to provide an answer to this question. What we do know is the hormonal make up of a placenta and the effect that these hormones can have after birth.

  • Corticotropin (CRH) is the body’s natural stress reliever found at its most concentrated within your placenta. When you birth your placenta your bodys CRH levels drop
  • Oxytocin for pain relief, contracting the uterus, contributing to the release of breastmilk and of course the bonding between mother and baby
  • Human Placental Lactogen (hPL) stimulates the mammary gland function
  • Prolactin which stimulates milk production

Many of my clients report to me that their milk supply is abundant, that the time it took them to heal was minimal and that their energy levels went through the roof.

I do believe that if you can feel rested and provide a good milk supply to your newborn you are on a great path. If placenta pills can contribute to that feeling then what an amazing natural alternative to supplements for your body

What if I am induced, use birth drugs or have a c-birth?

Drugs that are used during labour are deemed safe for you, your baby and your breastfeeding journey. There may be a very small amount left in the placenta at birth but these will not affect the pills in any way.

If you do have a c-birth then please make sure to keep your midwife in the loop with your placenta plans, they will need to make sure that the chiller pack is taken in to theatre and that the placenta is stored correctly.
